Just like many of our brides, I’m very much a DIY kinda guy. When you go to a bridal show, there are no shortages of photo booth companies (many of whom, I might add, do phenomenal work!). Then I thought to myself: You know what? I have an old camera, lighting equipment and moustaches lying around. Let’s put these babies to work!

Impressed? I thought so :).

Lisa and Kai jump simultaneously during their engagement session in Williamsburg, NY with Ben Lau Photography.

It’s Friday Funday, so I thought I’d share one of my most recent favorites! After all the requisite kissy-romantic poses are done, this is what we usually end up doing at the end of our engagement sessions. I kid you not. I mean, look at the skill and coordination between these two! This bodes very well for the married life they have ahead of them :).

Hope you guys have a fantastic Friday. As for me and Karis, we’ll be off to a lake house wedding this weekend. We can’t wait!

It’s not easy to plan a wedding. If planning a wedding is like trying to thread 100 needles, then planning a wedding in time for cherry blossoms is like trying to thread 1000 of them…with someone else’s hands…while blindfolded :). Nicole and Dave exchanged their vows along the Tidal Basin in front of the Jefferson Memorial, a spectacular backdrop even without the blooms. A violinist played under a nearby tree, with the sound of the Tidal Basin lapping quietly in the background. Quite truthfully, everything was just…perfect :).

Nicole and Dave, THANK YOU SO MUCH for inviting us along on this adventure with you! We know first-hand how crazy it got when you were throwing this shindig together, and honestly…everything was fantastic! Congratulations on EVERYTHING and we wish you two the very best as you embark on your journey towards happily ever after. We hope you enjoy these images as much as we did capturing them. To everyone else, Happy Thursday ya’ll! The wedding season is upon us and we can’t wait to share all the awesome stuff we have in store for you!

Love, peace and hair grease :)

Lauren and Tony hail from my (other) hometown of Baltimore, Maryland. Lucky for us, they love the Big Apple! So they packed their bags one early morning and headed to our neck of the woods if only for one awesome distinction: being the first couple I’ve ever photographed in Times Square (which I’ve avoided, up to this point, like the plague). Nice :).

In our line of work, you must always have a contingency plan. You must be able to see brick walls coming from a mile away and decide if you’re going to bust through (Oh Yeaaah!) or figure out a way to work around them. I generally opt for the latter approach and find the path of least resistance. Unfortunately, sometimes these “walls” are mobile. And sometimes, they’re (almost) butt-naked and strumming a guitar in the middle of Times Square.

We certainly heard the guy playing while I was snapping away, but figured he was busy entertaining all the tourists that were swarming into the city that early evening. But in an intersection with no less than a few thousand pedestrians and a few dozen shutterbugs, he found us fair and square. After I was done chimping with my camera, I looked up to find this half-nekkid dude standing behind my couple.

Naked Cowboy photo bombs our engagement session.

Oh…what the hell.

Sneak peeks of Lauren and Tony’s NYC engagement session’s coming right up :).

  • Julia Crotty - Hi, Ben, Lauren is my great niece. I think the photos are great! I can’t wait to see more! She asked me to do a reading at the church on her wedding day. I’m honored. Will you be photographing her wedding, also? Julia a/k/a “Aunt Jul”ReplyCancel

    • Ben Lau - Hi Aunt Jul! Thank you for enjoying our work. YES we will be photographing Lauren’s wedding, so we’ll be meeting each other in the not-so-distant future! We are also very honored to be capturing this momentous occasion!
