[Engagement] Erin & Tim – New York City, NY

Have you ever encountered people whose lives just make you wonder, “There’s no frigg’n way! That stuff only happens in movies!”? You know, the kinda off-the-script, color-outside-the-lines and habitual rule-breakers whose stories can entertain you for hours on end? Erin and Tim are those rule breakers :). Karis and I spent our first meeting with this couple laughing our socks off as they told us about how they met and all the adventures they’d been through together. When Erin told us that she stopped at mile 9 of her half marathon to grab a margarita with her friends, we were instantly hooked. It’s not often that you meet these kinds of awesome folks in your lives. You just have to take ’em by the ears, make a run for it, and enjoy the company.

Erin and Tim’s engagement session started in Central Park on an early, rainy Saturday morning. We like it like that because there’s nobody at the park that early in the morning, and even the dog walkers scramble at the first sight of rain. There’s a common misconception that engagement sessions need to be outdoors, much less with open blue skies overhead. I spent my first year as a wedding photographer shooting in the rain, so I’m no stranger to the whims of the weather-gods. Erin and Tim showed up that morning with a few heavy bags that slipped off their shoulders and landed on the ground with a loud *thunk*.

“Shoes?” I asked, pointing to the bags.

“Nope.” Tim replies. “Beer!”

Let the record show that I actually do encourage this kinda approach to everything in life, both on and off camera. Beer does make everything better :).

Thank goodness for weather-sealing on my equipment, and thank goodness Tim works at a bar that doesn’t open this early in the morning :). Round 2 of our engagement session took place at Bravest where Tim moonlights as a bartender extraordinaire.

And of course, some sport’s team love from our fun (and now, dry!) couple :).

Erin and Tim, we had so much fun splashing puddles with you guys during your rainy engagement session. We had a blast, and we hope you did too. We simply can’t wait to see you guys next year!
As for us here at Ben Lau Photography headquarters, we seemed to have encountered a medical emergency: I have a chipped tooth! Thankfully, it’s a molar so there will be no toothless smiling or lisps for my wedding this weekend :). Appointment is set for tomorrow, so we’ll keep our fingers crossed!
